Johnny Arruda, M.D., F.A.C.S.

Johnny Arruda has joined Premier ENT with over 20 years of experience in the field of otolaryngology, head and neck surgery with special interest in ear related disorders. He was born in Toronto, Ontario, the son of working class immigrants from the Azorean island of São Miguel, Portugal. He graduated summa cum laude from Burman University in Alberta, Canada and then travelled to southern California for medical school, graduating from Loma Linda University School of Medicine in 1989 where he received the David B. Hinshaw award for excellent performance in the field of surgery. After completing a residency in otolaryngology he did a fellowship in otology and neurotology at the Silverstein Institute in Sarasota, Florida.


Returning to California he spent 3 years as assistant professor at Loma Linda University and has remained a part of the clinical staff. While at Loma Linda he was the student rotation director for the division of otolaryngology and became chief of the department of otolaryngology at the Riverside County Regional Medical Center. Following that he spent 16 years with the Beaver Medical Group, and has been in private practice since 2016. While at Beaver medical group he was a member of various committees and was chairman of the surgical specialties section at Redlands Community Hospital.

Dr. Arruda has had several appearances on the PBS program, The American Health Journal. They included discussions on the topics of balance disorders, dizziness, hearing loss, as well as sinus problems. One program related to the inspiring story of Stella, a child from Uganda who sang with the African Children’s Choir despite chronic ear disease and associated hearing loss. The surgical correction by Dr. Arruda at Redlands Community Hospital as well as the positive results with the improvement in quality of life.


Dr. Arruda is a diplomate of the American Board of Otolaryngology, a member of the American Academy of Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery, the American College of Surgeons, the American Medical Association, as well as the Society of Ear Research Foundation Fellowship Graduates.


Dr. Arruda is also a published author in many peer-reviewed journal articles, scientific book chapters, and has presented research at national scientific meetings.


In addition to general otolaryngology, Dr. Arruda is able to provide the full spectrum of otologic and neurotologic services.

Broad categories include:

Chronic ear problems: eustachian tube dysfunction, perforations, cholesteatoma addressed with state of the art techniques including minimally invasive endoscopic techniques with selective mastoidectomy, intraoperative facial nerve monitoring.


Hearing loss: middle ear reconstruction for congenital malformations, stapes surgery, cochlear implantation, osseointegrated implants (BAHA).


Tinnitus: work up and management.


Dizziness: evaluation and management including minimally invasive office transtympanic injections for Meniere’s disease, management of benign positional vertigo, perilymph fistula, labyrinthitis, vestibular neuronitis, vestibular migraines.Facial nerve management with Bell’s palsy, trauma with weakness or paralysis, tumors affecting the facial nerve.Management of cerebellar pontine angle tumors including acoustic neuromas and meningiomas as well as lateral skull base lesions, petrous apex lesions including cholesterol granulomas and chondrosarcomas. It is Dr. Arruda’s goal to provide compassionate care for patients across the age spectrum from young children to the elderly.

Redlands doctors give

the gift of hearing to a young singer

Drs. Johnny Arruda and Fred Jacobs of Beaver Medical Group lead a group of health care professionals committed to helping the young girl by donating their surgery and care. Redlands Community Hospital agreed to donate its services, as well. A local host family volunteered to care for her and her guardian while she recovered.


“We were so pleased with the outcome of the surgery,” said Arruda, an ear, nose and throat specialist who performed the surgery. “She can now hear herself sing. Stella comes from an extremely impoverished area of the world where there’s not a lot of opportunity to have her condition fixed. I’m glad we were able to connect with her and help.”
